Annual Garage Sale
There were 9 lake garage sales with decent turn our and favorable
results. The board will be discussing whether or not this turn
out warrants the $130.00 it costs for this event. On the plus
side Donna at Donnas House Of Type created a nice form and
technology for posting garage sale ads to our web site, which
we could make available to homeowners to have their own sales
on whatever date meets their needs. The board will determine the
future of this event.
Fourth
Annual Golf Outing
May 22 proved to be a great day for our SLSIA golf outing. The
days without rain have been few and far between this golf season.
We had blue bird skies and mild temperatures for a good time at
Lincoln Greens. The field was two foursomes short of a full course,
and the association actually netted $1,500.00. Fifty companies
donated gifts so everyone received a prize.
First
place in open play went to the team of Keiser, Keiser, Saputo,
and Tyson. The club team award went to the TRN Club team of Mau,
Morgan, Walker, and Leonard. This is the first year that a team
from the Firefighters Club did not win the club award.
Long drive for men was a shot from Tony Saputo. The longest putt
was sunk by Loren Barnes. Larry Bumgardner laid it up closest
to the pin.
Joanne
Hanig had the longest drive for the ladies. Evelyn Dunlap dropped
in the longest putt. The shot closest to the pin was off the club
of Kathy Parker.
Congratulations
to all the winners, and thank you for all the contributions.
Special
thanks to our association member volunteers who put this event
together. Bill & Sue Thomas, Ron & Ann Tucker, Terry &
Bonnie Ribble, Garret Deakin, Kim Curry, Pam Tisckos, and Lynn
Bierma were all instrumental in putting a successful event together.
Oh yeah, I am on the committee as well, but I just show up to
help eat the treats.
Rock
the Dock
The Lake Springfield Marinas annual Independence Day fireworks
celebration will be held on Friday, July 2nd from 5:30 PM to 1Am
this year. The fireworks will go off at approximately 9:30 PM.
Along with its sponsors Midwest Family Broadcasting, Sunsetters
Waterfront Bar & Grill and Nelsons Catering, the Marina
is , once again, happy to provide lake homeowners, lake clubs,
boaters and other city of Springfield spectators a front-row seat
to the best fireworks show in the Midwest! Bring in the family,
invite your friends and have a party courtesy of your friends
at the Lake Springfield Marina !!
Iron
Abe and Stoneman Sprint Triathalons
There will be two triathlons on Sunday July 25 at the Lindsay
Bridge Boat ramp. We hope to have about 500 racers again this
year. The Iron Abe (9/10 mile swim) starts at 7:30 am with four
waves spaced 3 minutes apart. The Stoneman Sprint (500 yards swim)
starts at 8 am with four waves spaced 3 minutes apart. YMCA will
provide lifeguards. SUSART is being scheduled also. The swim courses
will be the same as last year. Water buoys will be set on Saturday
afternoon. The last swimmer will leave the water around 8:30 am.
All volunteers are welcome at the post race party at the Lake
Springfield Beach House Sunday morning.
Each
year, our homeowners are strategic to the assistance of the participants
of these races. The swimmers sometimes become distressed in the
water and need to hold on to catch their breath, then continue
on or they may need to remove themselves from the water completely.
They sometimes get overcome and need help in a hurry. That is
why we ask for your assistance in bringing your boat or wave runner
or both. Please arrive at the Lindsay Boat Launch no later than
7:00 am for instructions and placement. The races are typically
complete by 9:00 or 9:30. Our assistance is VITAL to this event.
Please e-mail me at slsiapres@gmail.com
so that I may share your boat numbers with the event chairperson
for planning purposes. Last year, one boat alone had seven swimmers
either hanging on the side of the boat or in the boat all at once.
Please volunteer if you can. The event and the participants really
appreciate our help.Waters Edge Condos
The new construction at the Marina entrance is for turn lanes
required by Illinois Department of Transportation to accommodate
increased traffic in the area due to the condos. The turn lanes
will have the added benefit of facilitating people that trailer
their watercraft to and from the Marina ramps.
Eagle
Watch
I spotted two immature birds on the edge of the nest.
