Sherel Nutt Memorial Scholarships Will Be $750 |
A
motion was made by John Aiello, seconded and unanimously
adopted by the board to increase next year's scholarships
to $750. We had 30 strong scholarship applicants
this year and the winners just showed how good,
talented & motivated our young people are
coming out of our local high schools. I congratulate
our two winners and our board for supporting our
youth!

Deakin
said, Our scholarship is named after a man who

his services and believed in the future of our youth.
Sherel would be proud of these two high school students.
Both Hannah and Kelly are wonderful examples of highly

The
Lake Shore Improvement Association's scholarships
were open to all high school seniors attending the
9 public or private schools in the Chatham, Rochester
or Springfield School Districts (schools that border
Lake Springfield). The only requirement was that students
must continue their education this fall be
it a public or private community college, 4 year college
or university. The award is very flexible and can
be used to help cover the cost of tuition, room and
board, books or travel expenses.
The
application required each senior to submit a high
school transcript, two letters of recommendation,
list of extracurricular activities/community service
and write a 500 word essay on "What Lake Springfield
has meant to you."
The
Association set up a Scholarship Committee to evaluate
the applications. "Competition was of the highest
caliber, and we have proof that the quality of students
graduating from our public and private high schools
in Springfield, Chatham and Rochester is excellent,"
said Deakin.
